The Impact of Design Theft and Counterfeit Products

StitchDoodles Speaks on BBC Radio 2 About the Impact of Design Theft and Counterfeit Products

On 9 June 2026, StitchDoodles had the opportunity to appear on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine Show to discuss a growing issue affecting creative businesses across the UK: design theft and counterfeit products.

As an independent embroidery design company, we have seen firsthand how original creative work can be copied and reproduced without permission. During the programme, we spoke about the challenges we face when counterfeit sellers copy not only our embroidery patterns, but also our product photography, branding imagery, and written descriptions. These imitations often appear on online marketplaces and social media platforms, making it difficult for customers to distinguish between genuine StitchDoodles products and unauthorised copies.

Design theft has become an increasingly significant issue for many artists, designers, and makers. Every StitchDoodles design represents many hours of research, illustration, testing, stitching, and refinement before it is released. When these designs are copied and sold by others, it undermines the time, effort, and investment that independent creators put into their work.

During the discussion, we explained some of the measures we have implemented to help protect our designs and intellectual property. While there is no single solution, we continue to monitor unauthorised use of our work and take action wherever possible to protect our brand and our customers.

Supporting original designers by purchasing directly from official sources plays a vital role in sustaining creative businesses. Every genuine purchase helps independent creators continue developing new products, investing in innovation, and serving the communities that support them.

We would like to thank BBC Radio 2 and the Jeremy Vine Show for highlighting this important issue and giving small creative businesses a platform to share their experiences.

Most importantly, thank you to our customers and supporters. Your continued support of original design helps ensure that creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation can thrive.
